A summary of chandlers life in a little cloud by james joyce

When Little Chandler insists that Gallaher will one day marry, the journalist scoffs at the prospect, claiming that if he does so he will marry rich, but as it stands he is content to please himself with many women rather than become bored with one.

Hippomenes wins by dropping three golden apples, which she stops to pick up, along the way. His small white hands and his fragile frame coupled to his voice that was quiet and his manners were refined gave him a childish impression too.

But the whole experience has put him in a different mindset: The Sitting Bee, 4 Jul. He is timid, because he enjoys poetry yet is too "shy" to read it to his wife. These feelings are more clearly exposed to the reader in the bar where Little Chandler actually meets Gallaher.

Chandler begins to question his marriage and its trappings: Gallaher takes life very simply. In essence Chandler is imagining fame, again without putting in the work.

At first, he hopes that Gallaher can be a good connection for him. Chandler knows that Gallaher declined his invitation because he sees Chandler as inferior, and sees all of Ireland as inferior, too. Even when he realizes that Gallaher refuses his invitation to see his home and family out of disinterest, he keeps such sentiments to himself.

It is while he is walking through Dublin, on his way to meet Gallaher that the reader realises the depth of this daydreaming or desire to escape. He points out that there is a legitimate lack of action in many of the stories, certainly in "A Little Cloud", and this "content of lack" [4] is mirrored by the language Joyce used.

His own reluctance is the only thing responsible for his feelings of incompleteness, and he can now only blame himself.

While remaining impressed by those who may be better than him or perceived to be better. At the same time, as the meeting at the pub progresses, Little Chandler feels cheated by the world since Gallaher can succeed and he cannot, and so once again the friend provides a barometer to measure and judge himself against.

In fact, almost everything that Little Chandler worries about has its opposite in Ignatius Gallaher, which is part of what makes the evening such an epic fail. He wonders why he married Annie. Chandler thinks how unexpected it is that his friend has been so successful, because apparently the whole reason he left Dublin in the first place was because of a scandal of some sort involving money.A summary of “A Little Cloud” in James Joyce's Dubliners.
